Constância

Where the Tagus meets the Zêzere: lanes, white houses and a tradition that ties the town to Camões.

Vi já que a Primavera, de contente,
de mil cores alegres, revestia
o monte, o rio, o campo, alegremente.
Luís Vaz de Camões, a verse painted on a bedroom wall

Known as the “Vila Poema” (Poem Village), Constância charms visitors with its picturesque narrow streets, white houses and deep-rooted traditions.

Set where the Tagus and Zêzere rivers meet, it is a perfect destination for nature and history lovers. Casa João Chagas, in the heart of the town, is a good base from which to explore it.

The Zêzere meets the Tagus at the foot of the town; there is a river beach on the Zêzere.

  • The history

Tradition links Camões to Constância: the Casa-Memória and the Jardim-Horto de Camões.

  • The festivities

At Easter, the town celebrates Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem with a procession of boats on the river.
